Feed My Sheep - Food Distribution Ministry
This ministry is primarily concerned with meeting the need of hunger
in our community. It also helps our local church to practice and live into its vision of providing
hope, healing and hospitality to North East Central Durham and beyond.
Three years ago, the ministry had begun serving hot meals and bagged groceries to approximately
20 households once a month. Today, it serves nearly 100 households twice monthly. All of this is
done on a shoestring budget and 100% volunteer help. It has been a vital bridge into our immediately
surrounding community. It also has opened up a very good working relationship between Asbury Temple
and two major area universities: North Carolina Central and Duke Divinity School. Students from both
institutions continue to play a vital role.
Because of this ministry, our local church is now clearly identified as being in solidarity with the
community and the poor within our community. This is what we hear often from those we are called by
God to serve.

The United Methodist Men of Asbury
Temple United Methodist Church takes very seriously their
purpose: "To declare the centrality of Christ in every man's
life, to promote the spiritual growth of men through effective
discipleship, and to model the servant leadership of Christ
in our daily lives." We do this in the following ways; monthly
meetings, biannually country breakfasts, Men's Day Celebration,
participating in the monthly SHARE Program, parking lot security,
annual Jamboree, emergency assistance, contribution to the
local church budget, maintenance and other needs that help
to fulfill the mission and ministry of God's Church. For additional
information, please contact Arthur L. Shuler, Sr., President
@ 336-437-8096.

United
Methodist Women:
The local unit of UMW supports Durham Urban Ministries, MATCH (Mother's and Their Children Prison Ministry),
and Church Women United. UMW also has the responsibility for the InterFaith Hospitality Network,
the ministry that supports homeless families through churches. The unit is very involved in the
Campaign for Children program. Each member of the unit is assigned 2-3 young people to be in
prayer for them and to help nurture them. Annually we sponsor a Back to School project to
collect school supplies for the children in the congregation and community. This year we
combined that mission project with the Food Giveaway ministry and it was quite successful.
In memory of our beloved member Harriet Strong Wright, the unit has established the
Harriet Wright Scholarship Fund. Each year United Methodist Women gives scholarships to first year college students. UMW meets every month on the third Sunday at 5 p.m.
